WACWISA MASTERS AND PhD SCHOLARSHIP MPHIL/PHD IRRIGATION AND DRAINAGE ENGINEERING MSC/MPHIL/PHD ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY The Scholarship Award Scheme (SAS) is provided by the Government of Ghana (GoG) and the World Bank (WB) to support promising African students to pursue Masters (MSc/MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) study programmes in Irrigation and Drainage Engineering and Environmental Management and Sustainability to conduct related research in the West African sub-region in particular and the Africa Region at large. Enrolled students will be supported to develop international experience in one or more of the WACWISA’s international partners’ laboratories and field stations. The need for highly trained skilled professionals is paramount given the issues of water scarcity and the need for the development of functional and efficient irrigation infrastructure in Africa. This is towards the ultimate goal for the intensification of agriculture, increased productivity and food security. General Eligibility Applicants should: Meet the standard University for Development Studies Admission requirement for both local and international students. Apply for the Masters/Doctor of Philosophy programme in Irrigation and Drainage Engineering at the University for Development Studies. Submit an official/certified academic transcript from the previous University of study and a certified copy of academic certificates, with official English translation provided where necessary. For the Masters programme, candidates must have the following qualifications: MPhil Irrigation and Drainage Engineering – A Bachelor’s degree (honours) or equivalent with at least a Second-Class Upper Division in Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Soil and Water Conservation and Management, Horticulture, Agronomy, Hydrology and Watershed Management and Engineering, Agricultural Technology, Soil Science or related fields. MSc/MPhil Environmental Management and Sustainability – A Bachelor’s degree (honours) or equivalent with at least a Second-Class Upper Division in Natural Resources Science and Management, Biology, Agriculture, Development Studies, Geography, Environmental Studies/Science or related fields. For the PhD programme, candidates must have a minimum qualification: PhD Irrigation and Drainage Engineering – Research-based Masters degree or equivalent in related field (Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Soil and Water Conservation and Management, Horticulture, Agronomy, Hydrology and Watershed Management and Engineering, Agricultural Technology, Soil Science). PhD Environmental Management and Sustainability – Research-based Masters degree or equivalent in related field in Natural Resources Science and Management, Biology, Agriculture, Development Studies, Geography, Environmental Studies/Science. Practical field training/experience in irrigation and drainage engineering or Environmental Management and Sustainability related activities is an added advantage. Masters’ applicants must submit a three (3)-page and PhD five (5)-page maximum research proposal which shall contain a research topic, background, problem statement and justification, objectives, materials and methods and expected results. All applicants shall submit a two (2)-page statement of motivation outlining their fitness for the study programme and benefit of the training to their home country and Africa in general. All applicants to the Masters or PhD programmes must submit two (2) academic letters of reference and one (1) professional letter of reference. Provide a detailed curriculum vitae (CV) – maximum two (2) pages All shortlisted applicants shall be interviewed. Applicants must be less than 35 years for the Masters programme and less than 40 years for PhD Be nationals of and resident in Africa. Provide a copy of National Identity Card (ID) or Bio-data page of National Passport Note: Female candidates in the West-Africa sub-region are particularly encouraged to apply. Language Requirement The program training language is solely in English. Francophone candidates with proven evidence of competence in English are encouraged to apply. However, the program will, based on merit, provide a ten (10) weeks certificate language competency training (English only) to selected Francophone candidates prior to the start of the academic year. Details of the Scholarship Package The selection of beneficiaries of the WACWISA Scholarship Award Scheme (SAS) shall be subject to the maintenance of a high-grade academic performance during the coursework, successful development and defence of research proposal during the first 6 to 12 months of the programme and high-level performance of progress of students. The scholarship is tenable at the University for Development Studies, School of Engineering and the Faculty of Natural Resources and Environment and shall cover the following: Tuition, Research and Learning Costs The scholarship will cover the official University fees for Masters students (24 months) and PhD students (48 months) at the University for Development Studies. This will include: tuition, registration, examination, matriculation, Student Identity Card, ICT and library. These will be payable to the University for Development Studies. Monthly Stipend The scholarship includes a monthly stipend to cover accommodation, living expenses, health insurance and other personal incidentals. Research Costs This research cost will cover transport, field data collection, software, and other student project related costs. International Placement/Mobility Costs Students may be supported and placed in international laboratories of partner institutions for the conduct of research where need be and to expose them to the international setting to gain international experience. This will cover travel cost in a return economy class ticket and living expenses for a period of between three (3) to six (6) months. Candidates must have completed their Bachelor’s Degree. The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) is open to citizens of certain developing countries with relevant professional experience and a history of supporting their countries’ development efforts who are applying to a master degree program in a development-related topic. Subject to available funding, JJWBGSP offers scholarships for 26 Participating Programs at universities in U.S., Europe, Africa, Oceania and Japan in key areas of development, including economic policy management, tax policy, and infrastructure management. Please note that if you are not admitted to one of these 26 programs, you are not eligible to apply for a JJWBGSP Scholarship in 2022. Two qualified assessors independently review each eligible application and score the application on a scale of 1 to 10, taking into account four main factors and the degree of cohesion among them: Quality of Professional Experience (30% weight) Quality of Professional Recommendations (30% weight) Quality of Commitment to your Home Country (30% weight) Quality of Education Background (10% weight) The JJ/WBGSP Secretariat uses the average score of the two assessors and the following criteria to select the finalists: Maintaining a reasonably wide geographical distribution of awards Maintaining a reasonable distribution of awards across gender Unusual circumstances/hardships, when assessing the employment experience and other aspects of an application; Giving scholarships to those applicants who, other things being equal, have limited access to financial resources for graduate studies abroad. The JJWBGSP Secretariat presents the finalists for the Participating Program scholarship to the JJ/WBG Steering Committee (composed of members of the World Bank Board of Directors and WB management) for approval. Winners are notified soon after the JJWBG Steering Committee approval. Scholarship Benefits The JJ/WBGSP scholarship provides the recipient with the following benefits: Economy class air travel between your home country and the host university at the start of your study program and immediately following the end of the scholarship period. In addition to the two-way air travel, scholars will receive a US $500 travel allowance for each trip; Tuition for your graduate program and the cost of basic medical insurance obtained through the university. While on campus during the scholarship period, a monthly subsistence allowance to cover all living expenses (accommodations, food, etc., including books). The amount of the allowance varies depending on the host country. Please note all JJ/WBGSP scholarships cover the duration of the graduate program or two years, whichever is less. The aim of Shandong University Scholarship for International Students (hereinafter refers to SDU Scholarship) is to financially support outstanding new international students. Every year, a number of outstanding undergraduates, masters and doctoral students are selected as winners. I. Eligibility 1. Applicants must be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good health. 2. Degree and age requirements: (1) Applicants must hold a high school graduate or an equivalent qualification and be under the age of 25 when applying for Bachelor programs; (2) Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification and be under the age of 35 when applying for Master programs; (3) Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or an equivalent qualification and be under the age of 40 when applying for Ph.D. programs. 3. Applicants must have an excellent academic performance and strong scientific research skills. 4. Applicants cannot be awarded any other scholarship funded by the Chinese government during the period he or she receives the SDU Scholarship. 5. Language requirements: For programs taught in Chinese: (1) Applicants must have obtained 210 points or above in the HSK 4 test when applying for Bachelor programs; (2) Applicants must have obtained 180 points or above in the HSK 5 test when applying for Master programs; (3) Applicants must have obtained 180 points or above in the HSK 6 test when applying for Ph.D. programs. For programs taught in English: (1) Applicants whose native language or official language is English are exempt from providing English language certification. (2) Applicants whose native language or official language is not English are required to submit the results of the IELTS (6.0 or above), TOEFL (80 points or above, SDU’s DI code: C296), MyBest Scores (80 points or above), Essentials test (8 points or above) or other equivalent certificates of English proficiency. UiTM is providing an opportunity for excellent Malaysian and international students to pursue their undergraduate and postgraduate studies at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) by offering them the UiTM Endowment Scholarship, the first of its kind in UiTM. The scholarship will not only cover academic tuition fees but also a rewarding monthly allowance. For the year 2021, more than 30 scholarships will be awarded to selected students categorised as follows: • Undergraduate scholarships for Malaysian citizens • Postgraduate scholarships for Malaysian citizens • Postgraduate scholarships for international students studying at UiTM in the stipulated prioritised areas. Is not a recipient of any scholarship or financial assistance from any organisation (Except zakat, dermasiswa, gift, financial assistance for disabilites (BKOKU) under Ministry of Higher Learning (KPT) or any one-off type of scholarship). Should receive exemption/postponement of service contract or loan repayment from previous sponsors for studies undertaken prior to applying for this scholarship. Is not working and does not have a fixed income (UiTM clinical students are excluded). Has no criminal record. Is not in serious debt or is bankrupt. Has not been blacklisted by any government agency (Malaysia / international). Disabilities (OKU) student must registered with Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM). Disabilities (OKU) student must registered with Unit Perkhidmatan OKU UiTM. Scholarship Period Bachelor’s degree Master’s degree Doctoral Maximum duration of scholarship is three to five (3-5) years depending on the recipient’s programme. Maximum duration of scholarship is two (2) years. Maximum duration of scholarship is four (4) years. Notes: Scholarship recipients need to complete their studies within the scholarship’s maximum stipulated duration. Any extension of studies will be borne by the recipient himself/herself. Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study from a university that is recognized by the Malaysian government with a CGPA of; ≥ 3.0 and support from the faculty on applicants’ initial research proposal (for research mode). 2. Applicants who do not meet CGPA’s requirement will only be considered if they have at least three years of work experience in the related field. Other terms: 1. A Bachelor’s degree scholarship recipient is monitored based on every semester’s final exam results. Recipients need to acquire ≥ 3.5 CGPA to retain the scholarship (for disabilities (OKU) student, ≥ 3.0 CGPA). 2. A Master’s or Doctoral recipient is monitored every six (6) months whereby he/she is required to present his/her progress report to an appointed scholarship committee member (for disabilities (OKU) student, ≥ 3.0 CGPA for master by coursework). 3.
